Creating inclusive and accessible workspaces
PDF | EPUB | Vol. 20, No. 1 (2024)
We bring who we are to work. Identities like gender, race, culture, religion, language, and sexual orientation go beyond how people understand themselves—identities interact with systems and policies that disadvantage some people, isolating or preventing people from achieving the same benefits as their peers. EDI—equity, diversity, and inclusion—is an intersectional approach that aims to examine biases, stereotypes, and assumptions with the goal to dismantle and address systemic barriers and harms. Oppressions like racism, sexism, homophobia, and transphobia can have a profound impact on mental health, and that includes mental health at work. EDI is vital to build healthy and equitable workplaces. When everyone is included and feel safe to be themselves, they can thrive at work.
